The design: 1,000 CRANES ON LA RHUNE
1,000 Cranes on La Rhune, inspired by Hokusai's prints and a Japanese legend: the legend of the 1,000 cranes.
This legend says that anyone who manages to fold 1,000 paper cranes will have their wish granted. As the crane is a symbol of longevity, a prayer must be made for each completed crane. This can be a collective or individual activity, but it is said that the more people who contribute to the garland, the stronger its impact will be. The origami crane is also a powerful symbol of peace.
Why this flight over a sketch of La Rhune?
La Rhune, Larrun in Basque, is a well-known peak in the Basque Country, crossed by the Franco-Spanish border, which is also the border between the Basque provinces of Labourd and Lower Navarre. This small, highly touristy mountain is also a symbol for me of the important place of nature and its fragile beauty in the Basque Country.
In an increasingly confusing world, with nature in danger and relative peace, I wanted to express a small breath of poetry. Even though there aren't 1,000 cranes in my design, having printed it as a series and seeing it being worn symbolizes my little prayer for tomorrow.
